CITY NOTES

Spreading some Holiday Cheer … and looking ahead to summer 2016

The holiday season is in full swing in Charles City and hopefully you have been able to take advantage of some of the great traditions and opportunities in town these past two weekends. The Chamber’s

retail promotion on Small Business Saturday and the annual

at Otto’s Oasis helped to kick things off, followed by a very busy past weekend that saw the annual

and

among many other things. Those last two activities were brought to you courtesy of Community Revitalization and saw great participation.

A record 24 entries took part in the Lighted Parade, while the return of the Home Tour after a few years off attracted visitors from 12 different communities. A big thank you again to our tour locations for opening up their homes, holiday decorations and traditions to the public.

If you are interested in possibly hosting a Holiday Home Tour stop in the future, or know of someone else who has a great holiday atmosphere at home and might be willing to share, please contact the Community Revitalization Office at (641) 228-2335 or info@charlescitychamber.com. We will pass it along to the tour committee for consideration.

The Chamber’s

also opened for the season last Friday after the parade and Santa will be available to visit with children from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 12 and 19, as well as from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Located in Central Park, the Santa House is looking as sharp as ever thanks to the Charles City Rotary Club, Sherwin-Williams and local artist Robin Macomber and her son.

Speaking of holiday traditions, there is one in Charles City that is still in need of some additional assistance. The

program through the Chamber of Commerce matches up families in need this season with generous families, businesses, groups and individuals who are willing to “adopt” them by providing holiday gifts that they might otherwise not get. The Chamber has a binder of applications that have been filled out that anyone interested in spreading some Holiday Cheer can look through and pick out who they would like to help. Your gifts can be picked up by the families at our office, or you can deliver them yourself in person. It is entirely up to you.

If you don’t have time to shop for a family but want to help, the Holiday Cheer program also accepts cash donations that our “elves” will use to shop for you. Cash donations for the program are down this year, however, and there are still a number of families in need that have not been adopted out.

To spread a little Holiday Cheer this year, stop in at the Chamber Office at 401 N. Main St.

Beyond this season, it is time to look ahead at what’s coming up after the first of the year, so get out your calendars and mark these notable dates!

is set for Jan. 29, 30 and 31, and is a great way to break up those winter blahs. Plans are under way for a great mix of indoor and outdoor fun for all ages. If your group or business has a great Cabin Fever Weekend activity that you would be interested in providing, please contact our office at (641) 228-4234 or info@charlescitychamber. com.

The

summer series dates have been finalized. They are Friday nights from 5-9 p.m. on May 27, June 10, June 24, July 15, July 29 and Aug. 12.

If you are interested in being a food or game vendor at any of those events, or have the name of a band that you would like us to consider for next year, please contact the Community Revitalization Office at (641) 228-2335 or info@charlescitychamber. com.

The Charles City Challenge Whitewater Weekend

is scheduled for June 18-19, with the

also set for June 18 along the river again.

Charles City’s big July

meanwhile, will take place from July 1-4, 2016. Both that and the Party in the Park events are a great place to plan your class or families reunions around For more information on any of the above, please contact our office. Happy Holidays everyone!
