Cobre baseball advances to Friday’s state semifinals

Nobody gave the Cobre High School Indians much of a chance as they faced the Hope Christian Huskies in the quarterfinal round of the U.S. Bank State Baseball Championships on Thursday afternoon at Rio Rancho High School.

But that, as they say, is why the game is decided on the field.

The sixth-seeded Indians knocked off the third-seeded Huskies 4-2 to move into Friday’s semifinals against the Portales Rams. The second-seeded Rams topped the seventh-seeded Bloomfield Bobcats, also by a score of 4-2, in the first game played Wednesday.
