GIRLS BASKETBALL: Strong finish not enough for Comets

GARNER — The Charles City Comets managed to outscore their opponents 31-22 in the second half of their Monday girls basketball game against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.

Problem was that GHV had taken a commanding 36-5 lead at the half, a deficit the Comets couldn’t overcome on way to a 58-36 final.

Charles City (0-2) will again try for its first win of the season Saturday when it hosts Algona in an afternoon game starting at 1 p.m.
