Perfection strikes for the fourth time this season at Comet Bowl

CHARLES CITY — In 10-Pin Heaven League action Wednesday at Comet Bowl, Scott Girkin rolled his sixth perfect “300” game of his career.

Bowling with the Hawkeye Plastic Products team, Girkin started the night off with the 300 and eventually finished with a 721 series.

Girkin’s feat was the fourth time perfection has struck at Comet Bowl this fall-winter adult league season.

The three other 300 games have come from a single team — Unggoy Broadband within the Hawkeye Thursday night league. Matt Weir has recorded two of them with teammate Aaron Garden achieving the other.

Incidentally, Girkin’s latest 300 game came the day before the 60th anniversary of the first sanctioned perfect game shot at Comet Bowl. Nineteen-year-old sub Dave Waters strung 12 in row on March 2, 1967 and received a $300 promotional cash prize from a local pizzaria.
