CLARKSVILLE — Coming out of halftime with an 11-point lead, Rockford proceeded to run more than a minute off the clock while reversing the ball back and forth along the perimeter to start the second half of its Class 1A District 4 semifinal against Hudson on Tuesday.

The Pirates couldn’t afford to be that patient.

Hudson’s sense of urgency paid off in a come-from-behind 38-34 victory.

The Pirates will face the winner of the subsequent Don Bosco-vs.-AGWSR semifinal 7 p.m. Thursday at a neutral site — Aplington-Parkersburg.

Hudson went on an 8-0 run to open the third quarter. It included a pair of 3-pointers by CJ Christopher to draw within 3 (23-20). Christopher would strike again for his fourth trey of the game to put the Pirates up 31-29 with 5:35 remaining in regulation — Hudson’s first lead since going up 2-1 early in the first quarter.

After Rockford tied it at 31, Pirate senior Parker Ingamelles tipped away and seized a Warrior possession before driving the length of the floor and finishing with a left-handed layup to put Hudson back up.

Rockford senior Zach Bushbaum hit a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession to give the Warriors a 34-33 lead, but Tannor Wulf’s 10-footer in the lane put Hudson up for good with a little more than 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

Christopher led the Pirates (14-8) with 12 points as his four 3-pointers accounted for all of his scoring. Ingamelles finished with 10 points.

In his final game as a Warrior, Bushbaum scored 12 to lead his team. Junior Kaden Lyman had 10 for Rockford, which finished at 17-6 for the season, which included winning a share of the Top of Iowa-East Conference title with Newman Catholic.

Early on, it appeared there would be more glory for Rockford as Jacob Staudt’s 3-point shot gave the Warriors a 12-2 lead.

But after milking the clock to start the second half, the Warriors couldn’t regain their offensive rhythm while scoring only 11 points in the final 16 minutes and being plagued by several turnovers — especially late in the game.
