NASHUA — Even topnotch high school trapshooters — the ones that get placed on their teams’ No. 1 squads — can go four years and never record a 25-of-25 round.

Four weeks into the season, shooters from the combined Charles City/Nashua-Plainfield team have yet to record a perfect 25 round.

That was until Tuesday.

While CC/N-P hosted Saint Ansgar at the Nashua Fish and Game Club, Charles City senior Bailee Bortz shot the first 25-of-25 round of her high school career before hitting 20 clays in the second round to finish with a combined score of 45.

That led the girls shooters as well as matching the top boys score while also helping Charles City 1 win the meet with a combined score of 208, that included scores from Carter West (43), Colby Gavitt (42), Kaleb Osier (40) and Evan Schmidtke (38).

Saint Ansgar Red, led by Emma Walling who placed second to Bortz among girls with a 44, was a distant runner-up with a combined score of 189.

Nashua’s Cooper Fisher hit 45 clays to pace the boys; West placed second.

Charles City’s Colby Gavitt and Nashua’s Bobby Gibble both shot 42s — Gavitt later won the shoot-off, 19 to 17, to claim third place.

Taking third among girls was Nashua’s Marissa Fuerstenberg, who hit 43 clays.

Charles City 2 — with combined scores from Nick Ritzman (40), Devin Alton (39), Dylan Bilharz (36), Jace Landt (28) and Leon Trebbien (27) — placed third (182).
