Blizzard can’t stop Sports Complex Banquet

Press photos by John Burbridge One of the primary reasons for a new Charles City outdoor sports complex is because baseball and softball games scheduled to be played at the current site tend to get postponed or cancelled in the wake of even moderately inclement weather. But even a forthcoming blizzard couldn’t postpone or cancel Saturday’s banquet at the FFA Enrichment Center to raise funds for the new complex. According to Sports Complex committee member Dana Sullivan who was one of the banquet’s organizers, the event raised more than $70,000. Entertainment after dinner were The Pork Tornadoes (photo 1). Among the live auction items was a “The Match” banner signed by participants Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods which auctioneer Scott Wright auctioned off with help from Larry Wolfe (photo 2). In addition to the live auction items, there were 36 donated silent auction items for which prospective buyers put in their bids (photo 3) before dinner was served.
