The annual Charles City spring cleanup will be Monday, April 24, through Thursday, April 27, the city announced. It also listed rules for the event.

Items at each address are limited to one pile no larger than 2 feet wide by 3 feet high by 8 feet long, plus one bulky item such as a couch, mattress and box springs, recliner, etc.

For pickup of garbage in excess of these guidelines, call Jendro’s at 641-228-3525. There will be a fee for any excess items over these guidelines.

One pass per residence. Place items you wish to discard on the curb by 5 a.m. on Monday, April 24.

Do not place items for pickup in the alley. If you place items on the curb before April 23 you will be cited for a nuisance violation.

Box springs and mattresses will be picked up citywide on Monday, April 24.

THESE ITEMS WILL BE PICKED UP AT NO COST:

• Furniture & household items (excludes TV’s, computer equipment and major appliances).

• Minor home remodeling debris — must be bagged, boxed or bundled, no longer than 4 feet length and each bag, box or bundle must weigh less than 50 pounds. Shingles, tarpaper or similar roofing materials will not be collected.

• Paint cans containing dry paint with the lid removed.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP:

• Vehicle tires of any size or type. Dispose of tires for a fee at the FMC Landfill at 3354 330th St., Elma.

• Landscape waste including grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs or brush. Take landscape materials to the Shaw Avenue Yard Waste Disposal Site located off Clark Street and Salsbury Avenue. The annual brush pick-up dates are May 1, June 19 and Oct. 23.

• Hazardous waste materials such as liquid paint, solvents, pesticides, or herbicides. Call the FMC Landfill at 877-982-4288 for information on proper disposal.

• Extra garbage placed out after the weekly residential pickup and garbage not in approved collection bags.

• Major appliances can be recycled by calling MidAmerican Energy at 800-621-2757 or visiting www.midamericanenergy.com for more information. Appliances will be picked up with no fee by calling one of the following licensed recyclers in the city: Dave Bock, 641-330-5597, or Denny’s Recycling, 641-228-1613.

• Televisions, computers and computer monitors can either be taken to the FMC Landfill for a fee, or call Dave Bock at 641-330-5597 for pickup and amount of fee.

OTHER RULES:

• The city and Jendro Sanitation have the right to reject any items. If items are not picked up you will be responsible for removing them and disposing of them within three days.•

• Only items from residential homes in Charles City will be picked up. Items at commercial businesses, apartment buildings and homes with five or more apartments will not be picked up.

• Items must originate at the location where  they are picked up.

• Rummaging through or removing items placed out for pickup by any person should be done in a neat manner.
