Marlon D. Stearns, 82, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Saturday morning, November 5, 2016 at Unity-Point Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Memorials may be directed in his name to Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Marlon Duane Stearns was born April 21, 1934 at Primghar, Iowa the son of Willys L. and Julia T. (Johnson) Stearns. In 1952, he graduated from Estherville High School and in 1957, he graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Marlon served six years in the Iowa National Guard.
On July 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Ione Caywood at Estherville, Iowa. Marlon was employed with Fareway Stores for 50 years serving as manager in Humboldt from 1970 to 1981, Estherville from 1981 to 1984 and Oelwein from 1984 to 2001. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Oelwein Lions Club. He enjoyed fly fishing, golfing, trap shooting, traveling and dancing.
Marlon is survived by his 4 children: William (Deborah) Stearns of Altoona, David Stearns of Puyullap, Washington, Marla (Gary) Rima of Charles City and John (Susan) Stearns of Oskaloosa; partner of 17 years: Edna Dalen of Oelwein; 6 grandchildren: Stephanie (Richard) Walz, Stacie Stearns, Susan (Paul) Beccio, Anthony Acklin, Steven Acklin and Samantha Stearns; 1 great grandchild: Charlie Beccio; and 1 brother: Richard (Gloria) Stearns of Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents: wife: Yvonne on June 19, 1998; and 1 sister: Joyce Hatland.
