Community Notes: You asked, we listened and answered at FCMC
By Dawnett Willis, CEO, Floyd County Medical Center
Spring is a time of new growth, a season where months of hard work start to become evident. At Floyd County Medical Center, the seeds we’ve been planting are beginning to bloom.
Today, I am pleased to share that FCMC’s same-day After Hours Care Clinic is open and ready to care for you and your loved ones when unexpected medical situations arise.

The need for an extended hours acute care clinic was one of the top priorities identified by you in our recent community needs survey. You asked, and thanks to our amazing clinic staff and new providers we’ve been able to bring this new service to our community. FCMC has expanded our care to serve you better.
In our proverbial garden, we planted this seed many months ago. We’ve been tending and planning and of course the hardest thing – working and waiting for all the pieces with respect to staffing, facilities, and processes to come together.
Proper planning is vital as we strive to cultivate a healthy community for our children’s children. Planning, timing and patience look amazing when these qualities bloom together.
Later this month, we’re pleased to announce, another new provider and service will be of immense benefit to many.
Ronald F. Kloc, MD, will be bringing his expertise in interventional pain management to FCMC. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with special qualification in pain management.
He has several new and effective methods of reducing or eliminating a patient’s daily pain, without the use of opioids. We know this issue affects so many people within our area that we are thrilled to be able to offer this important service to improve quality of life.
And although this next seed has only just been planted, we’ve been cultivating it for many months in preparation for the next phase of health care in Floyd County and beyond.
I am very excited to share that our FCMC Board of Trustees has approved a construction project to build a new three-story rural health clinic attached to the hospital.
We are working on refining the design during the next nine months as we meet with Accord Architecture. Construction on the new clinic is planned to begin April 2024 and will take approximately two years to complete.
The cost opinion from Henkel Construction is $25,848,698 for this project. The project will be funded by a combination of cash on hand, grants, donations and a USDA loan.
Space is being reserved within our Master Plan in the hopes that certain court outcomes will enable us to continue with our Stille Cancer Center. We know nothing is guaranteed, but we cannot wait on a court decision when it comes to planning and progressing forward with projects and new services that will position FCMC in providing necessary medical care for the communities we serve now and well into the future.
We will continue to update you all throughout the process as we refine the design with Accord Architecture. I want to thank our Board of Trustees, patients and staff, and residents of Floyd and surrounding counties for their dedication and support of FCMC.
