Charles City police move in to temporary office

The Charles City Police Department is settling in to its new base of operations.
Officers spent last week moving equipment from the police station to their temporary location at 623 Beck St.
“We had a lot more stuff than even we thought, but everything went well,” said Captain Brandon Franke.
The Police Department will be housed at the new location for roughly the next 18 months as the City Hall/Police Station undergoes a major renovation project.
After a few days of unpacking and setting up, the Police Department is up and running in the new building where they expect to be for the next year and a half.
For people visiting the temporary police station, the biggest change is that visitors are being asked to come to the building’s exterior window to talk with the receptionist. Franke acknowledges that it’s not an ideal setup, especially in the winter, but the office door needs to remain locked for the sake of security.
For the police themselves, outside of getting used to the new offices and getting to know their new neighbors, Franke says it has been business as usual.
“Everything is the same old, same old,” he said. “This will be a good spot for us for a while.”
