The threat of severe weather has moved up a “beam-signing ceremony” at the Floyd County Medical Center by one day.

Originally scheduled for Wednesday, the event will now be held today (Tuesday, March 18) from 3 to 5 p.m. on the patio by the temporary main entrance.

The Medical Center is again extending an invitation for community members to “leave their mark” on the $40 million hospital expansion and clinic project by signing one of two steel beams that will be part of the framework, but that will remain visible after construction is completed.

Anyone who can’t make it today but who still wants to sign a beam can do so Wednesday inside the hospital.

FCMC said that a beam signing is a common tradition in the construction industry, with one or two steel beams typically set aside for staff, community members and other important individuals to sign before being placed into a structure.

Dawnett Willis, FCMC chief executive officer, said, “We would love to see as many people as possible join us for the beam-signing ceremony. Bring your friends and coworkers and stop by to sign your name!”
