Floyd County is under a winter storm watch from 4 o’clock Wednesday morning to 1 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
Blizzard conditions and heavy snow are possible Wednesday as a strong spring weather system tracks northeast through the region Tuesday night into Wednesday.
“Initial rain will transition to wet snow with the potential for a narrow band of heavy accumulations Wednesday afternoon somewhere northwest of New Hampton to Winona, Minnesota, to Black River Falls.
Areas in northeast Iowa and southwest Minnesota may experience wind gusts of up to 55 mph, leading to potential blizzard conditions if high wind combines with falling snow.
Total snow accumulation between 2 and 9 inches is possible, NWS said.
“Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions
could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Strong
winds could cause tree damage,” the National Weather Service said.
