Lenny Zappa

Lenny Zappa, 57, of Charles City, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, with his loving family by his side.

Lenny was born Sept. 30, 1967, in Charles City, Iowa, to Patrica Wrubel and Leonard Zappa, beginning a life filled with purpose and passion. He resided most of his life in Charles City, where he raised his four children with his wife Linda Herman, and though they later divorced, his love for his children only grew stronger.

Lenny met Andrea Roberts in 2010, and later married in 2014, finding new joy and companionship. In 2016, Lenny and Andrea welcomed their son, Jagger, whose brief life was a precious gift that inspired them to cherish every moment.

Lenny worked most of his life in construction and Winnebago Industries. He also had a love for DJ’ing and doing side bartending jobs, spreading joy and making memories for all those around him. In his free time, you could find him jamming to music, fixing cars, spending time with his family and friends, and especially with his daughters, who brought him immense joy. He had a passion for drawing and writing, using these creative outlets to express himself and inspire others. The music of Michael Jackson, Prince and the Minnesota Vikings football team inspired him with great happiness. His free spirit will live on through his daughters, a testament to the impact he had on those around him.

Lenny is survived by his wife, Andrea Zappa; special friend Linda Herman; his four daughters Lili (Vinay) Tiwari of Minneapolis, Sam (Mat) Cain of Charles City, Ashlee ( Ethan) Mahlstedt of Charles City, and Angela Zappa of Charles City. Jeff (Amanda) Starkey of Charles City; 11 grandkids, two great-grandkids; siblings: Joe (Janice) Zappa of Owatonna, Eugene (Corinna) Cochran, Joe (Tammy) Martinson, Theresa Martinson, Kelly (Randy) Hakes. Randy (Cara) Martinson, along with many special nieces and nephews, and special friends Randy and Tina Bouska.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Patrica Wrubel and Leonard Zappa, stepmom Sharon Martinson; sisters Theresa (Bootsie) Lensing, Priscilla (Charlie) Zappa Teepe, Chris Porter, Mary Monahan, Sherry Zappa; brothers Danny Zappa, Lenny Zappa and Jim Martinson; and son Jagger Zappa.

A memorial service for Lenny Zappa will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Timm Caspers officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
