Anthony ‘Tony’ Matthes
Anthony “Tony” Matthes, 65, of Evansdale, formerly Charles City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at his home following a lengthy illness.
A funeral service for Tony Matthes will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Martha Bennett from Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to the start of the service at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 19.
Anthony Duval Matthes, the son of Harold and Mary Irene (Stoffels) Matthes, was born Dec. 11, 1950 in Charles City. He was raised in the Floyd and Charles City areas attending elementary school in Floyd and graduating from Charles City High School. Tony enlisted in the Navy after graduating, and proudly served his country stationed in Guam.
He was honorably discharged and lived throughout the United States working in different areas, he was a jack-of-all-trades. Tony settled in the Waterloo and Evansdale areas over the last 15 to 20 years working at Tysons until his health would not allow him to work any longer. He enjoyed watching both races and wrestling on television.
Living family members include three sisters: Vali (Marc) Reams of Topeka, Kan., Eileen (John) Caldwell of Salt Lake City, Utah and Paula Jacobson of Mason City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ryan Matthes; three brothers: John, Don and Joe Rapp; and two sisters: Dorothy Matthews and Margaret Reed.
