Staff report

A Charles City man is charged with his third OWI offense after allegedly striking a light pole early Sunday morning.

Mario Marth, 33, lost control of the 2006 Pontiac he was driving at 3 a.m., according to the Charles City Police Department in a report.

Marth was turning on to Allison Street near McDonalds restaurant when he struck a light pole, which fell onto the car and then into the street, the report said. Damage to the pole and car is estimated at $6,000.

Marth was arrested and charged with OWI third offense, violation of a restricted license and failure to maintain control. He was released from the Floyd County Jail on his own recognizance at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Marth’s previous OWI charges were in 2005 and 2010, both in Floyd County, Iowa court records show.
