The new Charles City flag will make its official debut in Central Park on Friday, June 24, during a band break at Party in the Park.

The flag project was spearheaded more than a year ago by the Charles City Lions Club as part of their centennial celebration and dedication of the new 3-flag pole memorial in Central Park.

The U.S. and Iowa flags are being flown on two of the poles, but the third is being reserved for the new Charles City flag. The Floyd County Flag has been flying on the third pole until now.

Public design ideas were solicited and elements selected for a task force to work with along with a professional graphic designer. Four final design choices were then presented to the public to vote on.

The winning design features a white background with a winding blue river bordered by green and an industrial gear/tractor tire overlaid in the center with the cable-stayed pedestrian bridge inside. The color scheme represents the river, green spaces and Comet orange.

The 3×5 foot Charles City Flags are now available to the public for sale at the Main Street Charles City Office at 401 North Main St., or at City Hall for $49. Smaller garden flag versions of the new flag are also available for sale for $24.95 at the Main Street Charles City office.

Sales of the new flags will benefit the non-profit, volunteer-driven Main Street Charles City program.
