Charles City’s long weekend of fun kicked off on Friday, June 30, with the second of this summer’s Party in the Park events.
Conservation was the theme of the evening with the party sponsored by Tynan’s Recycling Inc. Along with the usual games and activities, kids were invited to check out “The Conservation Station” to learn about how water works in the ecosystem and see how the planned Edible Arboretum will be laid out when it is constructed.
Even the party itself is going green, upgrading plastic tokens to a more environmentally friendly biodegradable version.
It was a humid Friday evening in the park, but that didn’t keep people from popping in to enjoy the games and music for the evening.
“I’m always amazed,” said tourism director Joanna Thomson. “It feels like we’re always packed.”
This week’s musical entertainment was provided by BTDT (formerly known as Been There Done That), with Company Dime opening. BTDT beat the heat and played into the night, closing out June and ushering in an event-packed July.
“This is the perfect way to kick off the Fourth of July weekend,” said committee member Krista Noah.
