The Charles City Singers will present their 2023 Winter Concert on Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, beginning at 2 p.m.

“The Holidays is a season of so many varied emotions and memories for everyone,” said Tim J. Mitchell, who is in his first year taking over directing the longstanding local group.

“We are preparing a concert that rekindles those feelings with familiar standards such as ‘White Christmas,’ ‘Go Tell It On The Mountain’ and even something for wide-eyed children with ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town,’” said Mitchell, a Charles City native.

Joining the Charles City Singers will be a guest performance by the Union Carolers from Union High School in La Porte City. The Union Carolers is an auditioned group entering its 20th anniversary season, having been formed by Mitchell in 2003.

Dressed entirely in Dickens-era costumes complete with hoop skirts for the ladies and top hats and capes on the men, the group has become a staple throughout the Cedar Valley during the holiday season, Mitchell said. The group typically performs between 40 and 60 gigs between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Concert advance tickets are available at First Security Bank, First Citizens Bank, Charles City Arts Center and from ensemble members; adult tickets are $10 and K-12 students are admitted free.
