Volunteers sweep up Main Street

Fifteen volunteers went out to clean up the streets as Main Street Charles City hosted its annual Spring Clean-Up event on Saturday, April 20.
“We usually try to do it a few weeks earlier than this, but the weather was not conducive,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks.
Sweeping sidewalks, storefronts, and driveways, community minded volunteers set out to clear away winter debris along Main Street and a bit of North Jackson.
The volunteer clean-up is just one aspect of the Main Street’s efforts that will take place over the coming weeks to spruce up downtown now that winter is over.
“We want to get Charles City looking good for our spring and summer events,” said Wicks. “We get comments every summer about how good our downtown looks. This is the reason why.”
