The Charles City High School football team got prepped for Friday’s game with a special team dinner at Trinity United Methodist Church on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The church congregation invited the team over for dinner as a way of celebrating the start of the new football season.

“It’s all about the team,” said church member Josh Mack.

“This is the first thing that we’ve done here at the church for them,” said Rachel Mack.

Spearheading the meal planning, the Macks invited the Comets to come together at the church and enjoy a dinner of barbecue pork sandwiches, hotdogs, chips, corn, watermelon and a selection of homemade desserts made by the congregation.

Wanda Mondt, Deb Bronzer, Ileen Jerdee, Lorrene Tumilson, Rae Asleson, Veronica Litterer, Wanda Cummins, Judy Mulcaky and Kelly Tynan were also among those who contributed to meal.

After a speech from the coaches and captains, the team descended upon the serving table, where it didn’t take long for the hungry players to get their fill of sandwiches and snacks.

“It was really good,” said senior Trevor Carolan.

This is the first time Trinity United Methodist Church has done a meal like this, but plans are in the works to expand the season opening meal to other athletic teams throughout the year.

“We’re so happy to have them here,” said Pastor Don Preston. “They’re having a good time.”
