It’s been a busy week of activities as the Charles City Public Library keeps kids – and others – occupied over Spring Break.

On Tuesday, kids were invited to a Lego building time in the morning and got to make tasty treats in the afternoon as the Get Messy program taught them how to make mug cake.

Mixing and microwaving ingredients in a coffee mug, the kids got to make, decorate, and eat their own personalized cakes.

“Everybody gets cake,” said Children’s Librarian Stacey Leerhoff. “Who doesn’t like cake?”

Activities continued on Wednesday as five groups of puzzle solvers came out to enjoy Puzzles and Pizza.

“It went good,” said Assistant Director Dana Schwickerath. “We’re just enjoying Spring Break.”

About 25 people split into teams in a race to solve their puzzle first while snacking on pizza, drinks, and cookies.

Going into the weekend, the Library still has more on the schedule as Spring Break Nerf Night will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday. Registration is required so interested kids must be sure to sign up ahead of time.
