The Charles Theatre has a special show lined up this week.
On Thursday, April 10, the theater will be host to a live concert from country music performer Jordan Beem.
The one-night show is part of the theater board’s recent efforts to expand entertainment offerings beyond the regular run of movies.
“The vision of the last year has been to better utilize the space to bring bigger events to the community,” said board member Patrick Nyberg. “It’s a really cool space and we want to be able to showcase it more.”
A rising star in the country music scene, Jordan Beem was named the Midwest Country Organization’s 2023 New Artist of the Year and the Country Music Artist of the Year during the 2024 Iowa Music Awards.
“I liked what I was hearing and thought that would be something the folks of Charles City would like,” said board member Chuck VanGuilder. “I just shot him an e-mail and asked him if he’d be interested in playing at the theater.”
Booking live performances like Beem is part of the theater board’s long-term plan to widen its entertainment offerings. Last year, the theater obtained a liquor license to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages, which helps facilitate concerts like this.
“We think it’s a nice option for movies, but this was the real intention,” said Nyberg.
The board is hopeful that the concert will see a strong turnout from the community, which will in turn help facilitate more live-performance opportunities.
“We’re new to it, but it’s something we want to get into,” said VanGuilder. “It should be a fun night out.”
“This is something that’s not available in most small communities,” said Nyberg. “We’re really hoping to pack the theater and get a rocking show going.”
