The Charles City Community School District and the Charles City Community Education Association began the negotiation process for next year’s master contract on Wednesday, April 8.
Representatives from each organization presented the other with their initial proposals for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The teacher’s union is requesting a $2,000 increase in salary, or an increase from the state minimum applied to salary, whichever is greater. The union is also asking for extra duty compensation to be raised from $25 to $30 per assignment for regular workday events and $30 to $35 for non-regular workday events.
From the district’s side, the initial proposal for the contract includes a 77 cents per hour wage increase for all support staff groups and an increase to the additional pay maintenance and groundskeepers receive for up to four licenses from 75 cents to $1 per hour. The proposal also offers back two hours for employees whose hours were reduced to seven and 7.5 for this year and reduces the number of days paraprofessionals can return before students to one day before students arrive for the year.
After presenting their respective starting points, the two groups went into closed session to begin negotiations for the new master contract.
