Ice cream and LEGOS were on hand as the Charles City Public Library celebrated National Library Week on Tuesday, April 8.
“It’s just an opportunity to give back to the community and do some fun programs,” said Library Director Annette Dean.
For their part in the nationwide program to raise awareness of the role that libraries play in their communities, the library hosted an afternoon of building LEGOs in the Zastrow room in lieu of the usual Tuesday afternoon Get Messy program.
With buckets of bricks to utilize, the kids’ creations will be on display on the library’s reception counter.
Visitors even received their own LEGO glasses to customize, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.
And, as a special treat, Pat Lumley brought in buckets of ice cream with a selection of sprinkles and other toppings for everybody to enjoy as a way to make the day even sweeter.
“I thought it’d be fun,” said Lumley. “It’s something different to do in town.”
Along with the LEGOs and ice cream event, the library has plenty of activities coming up in the month.
Next week’s Get Messy will have kids making pin wheels and an Easter egg hunt; D&D sessions for kids and adults will be played on Saturday, April 19; and author Michelle Sprout Murray will be visiting on April 22 to discuss her new book.
Also, throughout April, patrons who check out a book will be entered into a chance for a $25 gift certificate to Scooter’s Coffee.
“April is a good month to check out a book,” said Dean.
