Robert ‘Bob’ Kilian Schafer

180305_F_Bob Schafer obitRobert “Bob” Kilian Schafer, born on July 17, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Charles City, Iowa, left this world for his heavenly home on November 7, 2017, at the Oklahoma City VA Hospital at the age of 76.

Bob proudly served his country for 16 years in the United States Marine Corps as an aircraft mechanic.  He served three tours in Vietnam, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal), and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Actions Medal), among various other medals.

Bob is survived by his son, Robert Kilian Schafer, Jr.; four daughters, Michelle Schafer Davis, Jean Schafer Taylor and husband Bill, Rhonda Schafer Donze and husband Jared, and Patricia Schafer Alexander; his step-children, Tammy McJunkin and Earl “Gordy” McCormick;  his first wife, Laura Lockhart Schafer; his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Schafer Moritz and husband Ray; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  Bob was preceded in death by his second wife, Joyce Wilson Schafer; and his parents Kilian and Margaret Koenig Schafer.

Interment is at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, on March 7, 2018.
