Beatrice ‘Irene’ Flack

Beatrice “Irene” Flack, 99, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service for Irene Flack will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at First Congregational Church in Charles City with Pastor John Tunnicliff officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the start of the service Monday at the church.

Irene Flack, the daughter of James “Ray” and Beatrice (Pell) Fiddick, was born on April 2, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa. Irene attended and graduated from Greene Schools. She worked as a telephone operator in Charles City until she married Gerald Flack on Aug. 25, 1944, in Klamoth Falls, Oregon. To this union the couple had four children: Dennis, Duane, Don, and Dale.

Irene lived in various states and cities including San Diego, California, while Gerald served in the Marines during World War II. In 1957 they moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa where she worked as an Avon Dealer for 17 years. They moved back to Charles City in 1975 where Irene and Gerald co-owned the Coast-to-Coast Store & Pederson Cleaners. After retiring, and after Gerald’s death, she subbed at Charles City Schools. She also continued to do alterations until the age of 92.

Irene is survived by her sons, Dennis and Dale (DeOnn); eight grandchildren: Janelle Moe, Robert Flack, Nicholas Kline, Michelle (Bob) Vrba, Kristian Kline, Danielle (Josh) Borntregger, Joshua (Dina) Flack, and Analise (Craig) Junker; along with several great and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; infant son, Don; son, Duane; two daughters-in-law, Shirley and Jane; grandson, Jeffrey; sister, Thelma; and brother, Floyd.
