Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City, and an hour prior to the funeral at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford on Thursday.

Jim was born on May 6, 1939, in Charles City, Iowa, to Alvin and Beulah (Achenbach) Marth. He was the eldest of two children. Jim grew up on a farm between Charles City and Rockford until a tragic farm accident took the life of his father. Shortly thereafter, Jim, his mother, and sister relocated to Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School and later served in the National Guard. Jim then returned to the farm, where he pursued his lifelong passion for farming.

On Sept. 13, 1969, Jim married Susan “Sue” Youngerman. Together, they raised three children, living in rural Rockford until 2000, when they moved into the city of Rockford. Their marriage was blessed with three children and later six grandchildren.

Jim was a dedicated, lifelong farmer known for his hard work, his stewardship of the land, and his compassionate care for his livestock. His strong work ethic was only matched by his love and devotion to his family. Although Jim was frugal, he always made sure his family had everything they needed. He placed them above all else, cherishing his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. Later in life, Jim found joy in the companionship of his fur babies, Dora, Dasher and Poppy, with Dora and Dasher now waiting for him in heaven.

Jim was deeply committed to his faith and found peace knowing that he would be welcomed into God’s great kingdom after death.

Jim is survived by his three children: Alvin (Tina) Marth, Billy (Laura) Marth, and Kathy (Bradley Gorman) Marth; his six grandchildren: Cory, Tyler, Malia, Liam, Grace, and Marissa; his sister Bonnie; his nephew David; and his niece Lydia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan “Sue” Marth; his parents, Alvin and Beulah Marth; and his niece, Amy Sneider.

Jim’s legacy of hard work, love for his family, and commitment to the farm will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
