June Leaman

June Leaman, 98, of Rudd, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City with her family by her side.

A funeral service for June Leaman will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City, Iowa with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Friday.

June Maxine (Stewart) Leaman, the daughter of Mervyn and Bessie (Hennick) Stewart, was born July 30, 1926, on the Stewart farm Southwest of Floyd, Iowa. She graduated from Floyd High School in 1944.

June was united in marriage to Richard Hoger Leaman on July 8, 1945, in Nashua, Iowa. The couple was blessed with seven children: Gloria, Judy, Nancy, Jerry, Rita, Peggy and Rick.

June worked at the Oliver plant in payroll for one month before beginning her career as a nurse’s aid at the Cedar Valley Hospital for several years. She then decided to attend NIACC later in life and earn her Licensed Practical Nurse license. June utilized her new achievement by working as an LPN at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage for 22 years before retiring.

June was an active member of the Rudd United Methodist Church from 1951 until her recent passing and she also belonged to the Licensed Practical Nurses Association for 22 years.

June enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds (especially cardinals and robins), traveling with her family while the children were growing up and camping in many states. One of her great accomplishments in life was traveling in all 50 states; a cruise to Alaska and going to Hawaii seven times included in those travels. June also visited Australia, Fiji Islands, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Canada and Mexico.

June loved her family very much and cherished the times spent with all of them. She always looked for the good in people and never had a harsh word to speak about anyone.

Living family members include her six children: Judy (Jerry) Garl of Nora Springs, Nancy (Bill) Walker of Clear Lake, Jerry (Linda) Leaman of Clear Lake, Rita (Dennis) Fuller of Bismarck, North Dakota, Peggy (Joel) Hanson of Nora Springs and Rick (Debra) Leaman of Nora Springs; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sisters: Mary Stansberry and Norma Wamsley; sisters-in-law: Juanita Stewart and June Wentworth; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Mervyn and Bessie Stewart; husband, Richard Leaman; daughter, Gloria Darter; sister, Ruby Thorson; brothers: Truman, Wilbur, Don and Gordon Stewart; brothers-in-law: Claude Stansberry, Don Thorson and Vernon Wamsley; and sisters-in-law Elayne Stewart, Dorothy Stewart and Mabel Stewart.
