Larry Frahm

Larry Frahm, 84, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Howlett officiating with a luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City at a later date.

A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or St. Croix Hospice.

Larry John Frahm, the son of John and Olive (Nettleton) Frahm, was born on June 16, 1940, in Mason City. Larry attended school in Fertile and graduated in 1958 as valedictorian. He then attended Mason City Junior College to obtain an associate’s degree, then attended Iowa State Teachers College to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Larry later furthered his education at The University of North Carolina to obtain a master’s degree.

After Iowa State Teachers College, Larry worked for Oakridge Institute of Nuclear Studies in Oakridge, Tennessee where he traveled around Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania lecturing at high schools. He then worked at Sheffield–Chapin High School as a physics and chemistry teacher. After obtaining his master’s degree, Larry worked at Salsbury Laboratories in Charles City until his retirement in 2000. Upon retirement, Larry established Frahm Consulting Services to provide FDA compliance consulting services to various companies.

Larry was united in marriage to Nelda Ouverson on June 26, 1960, at Church of Christ in Fertile. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and First Baptist Church. Larry was very active in all the churches he attended, helping in any way he could, including teaching Sunday school, working on various church boards, and even fill in as speaker if needed. Starting from the age of 11, Larry loved motorcycles and rode whenever he could. Larry and Nelda spent the last 20 plus winters in Arizona. Larry was a leader and became known for taking new residents in their Arizonian RV Resort out to the mountains to explore on ATVs.

Living family members include his wife of 64 years, Nelda Frahm; daughter, Yvonne (Patrick) Andresen; grandson, Andrew (Lisa) Andresen and their children, August and Ceci; grandson, Tim Andresen; son, Erich (Jill) Frahm; grandchildren: David and Julie Frahm; son, Paul (Tammy) Frahm; granddaughter, Halie Frahm; brothers, Gary Frahm and Gene (Karen) Frahm; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Edwin and Helen Ouverson; grandson, Gabriel Paul Frahm; brother, Jerry Frahm; and sister-in-law, Nancy Frahm.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to all of the nurses, doctors, and staff at Floyd County Medical Center for all their wonderful care to Larry.
