Arlene R. Lynes

Arlene R. Lynes, 93, departed this life on Saturday, March 8, 2025, while residing at Thornton Manor in Lansing, IA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at Center Baptist Church in rural Lansing with Pastor Matthew Majewski officiating. Burial will be at Willow Lawn, Plainfield, IA, at 3:30 p.m. Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church on Saturday. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing is handling the arrangements for the family. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Parkinson’s Association.

Arlene Ruth Griffin Lynes was born on Oct. 2, 1931, in Charles City, IA, the daughter of Edward and Florence (Hanson) Griffin. Growing up in Charles City, she attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and worked in Charles City and Manitowoc, WI. On Jan. 3, 1950, she married Alvin Lynes of Plainfield, IA, where they began to raise their family. They moved to Cedar Falls, IA, in 1957, and then to Independence, IA, in 1961.

Arlene graduated from University of Northern Iowa in 1974, with a B.A. in business education and worked for the Iowa State employment office. Arlene and Al moved to Lansing, IA, in 1977, where they built their home overlooking the Mississippi River. She was a teacher at the Seneca High School in Seneca, WI, retiring in 1991.

Arlene was an active member of the Independence and Center Baptist Churches. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, playing piano, fishing, working in her garden, and watching the barges on the Mississippi from her deck. Arlene loved traveling to all 50 states and numerous countries with Al.

Survivors include her children: Angie Lynes of Harrodsburg, KY, Gregg (Sue Ann) Lynes of Runnells, IA, and Jim (Cathy) Lynes of Mauston, WI; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Phyliss Bluhm of Waverly, IA; a brother Jess Griffin of Charles City; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alvin in 2004; son Bill; a sister Margaret; and five brothers: Raymond, Lyle, Everett, Lawrence, and Harold.

Honorary casketbearers are Jan Stute, Megan Enyart, Phyllis Seibert, Marilyn Larson, Eleanor Emerson, and Collette Foster, Casketbearers are Apryl Sweat, Ryan Lynes, Gracie Hansen, Kristin Lynes, Cody Nolin, Sean Nolin, and John Lang.
