Beverly Ann DeWalle
Beverly Ann DeWalle, 80, of Charles City, passed away peacefully at Osage Rehabilitation and Healthcare on March 14, 2025, after suffering a stroke in February.
Bev was born on Dec. 15, 1944, to Emma Virginia and Melvin Hackbart in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, before they moved to Osage, Iowa, where she welcomed a brother, Charles, and sister, Patricia, into the family.
After Bev graduated from Osage High School, she went to work at Fox River Mills. She worked there until 1993.
Bev married Donald DeWalle Sr. and combined his family of sons, Don DeWalle Jr. and Mark, and her daughter Dawn, on June 2, 1968. They then welcomed their son, Darin, into the family.
After working at Fox River she opened an in-home daycare for a number of years. She worked various jobs in her life time.
Bev really started to enjoy herself after she retired in 2009. She spent time bowling on many leagues and making trips to State Bowling with friends. She liked to collect gnomes, cardinals, work out in her rock garden, going to garage sales and visiting with friends, which if anyone knew Bev, she loved to talk either to strangers or people she knew.
She is survived by her brother Charlie (Glenda) Hackbart, her sons Don Jr., Mark and Darin (Nikki), her daughter Dawn (Rich), and her good friend Linda Abben.
She leaves behind her grandchildren Chris Kephart (Lee), Desiree Draheim (Bryan), Tanner and Josh Flugge; Devin, Ashley, Valentina and Damon DeWalle; her great-grandchildren Brooke, Alex, Brendon and Caleb (CJ) Anderson, Kimberly Kephart, Mikka, Jaydyn, Chloe and Vivian Draheim, Scarlett DeWalle; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Virginia, father Melvin, her husband Donald and her sister Pat.
There will be a celebration of life in the fellowship hall at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 12, from 1 to 5 p.m.
