John Hutchison

John Hutchison, 71, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and will continue one hour before the service on Wednesday. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to TAT (Truckers Against Trafficking), PO Box 816, Englewood, CO, 80151.

In honor of his love for the open road, please feel free to wear casual attire or something that reminds you of the journeys he took (he loved his cowboy boots and jeans).

John Paul Hutchison, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, was born on Oct. 22, 1953, in Dallas, Texas. John was adopted that same month by his loving parents Bob and Bee (Hillerege) Hutchison.

John spent some of his childhood in Des Moines until the family moved to Nashua, Iowa in 1964. John finished his schooling in Nashua where he graduated in 1971. In his younger years, John and his friends were known for their wild adventures and good-natured mischief around town. From spontaneous road trips to unforgettable moments of laughter, he lived with a spirit of fun and camaraderie that left an impression on everyone who knew him.

John married Norma Martin in 1975. Their marriage resulted in two daughters, Holly and Shelly. The couple later divorced. In 1990 John married Debbie Brown. Their marriage resulted in one daughter, Emily; they later divorced.

John spent the majority of his life behind the wheel, making a mark on the world in ways that few could. As a skilled and dedicated driver, he spent many years driving a tour bus, sharing his love of adventure and storytelling with countless passengers. His career also included many years as a truck driver, crisscrossing the country with a work ethic that reflected his passion for the open road. He loved the freedom of the drive. John also had a love for nature, you could always catch him camping and fishing all summer long.

John is survived by his children Holly (Justice) Noling of Charles City and Emily Hutchison of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Lakasha (Wesley Burik) Hutchison of Charles City, Alex Young of Waterloo, Chaz, Jaymison and Koby Butz of Independence; his two great grandchildren Jaclynn and Aurora; along with his two lifelong best friends, Rick Caldwell and Dick Jansen.

He was preceded in death by his four grandparents; parents Bob and Bee; daughter Shelly; good friends Moe, Andy, Terry, Tom and Max and his beloved pet, Luckydog.
