Back Thomson to protect land, rights

By Ruth Mitchell
Charles City

As part of a landowning family in North Iowa, I’m urging everyone to re-elect Charley Thomson as our state representative. Charley has been an unwavering advocate for those of us who are directly affected by the proposed carbon pipeline project. This dangerous and unconstitutional project threatens our property rights, safety and livelihoods, and Charley has been at the forefront of the fight to stop it.

Charley has worked tirelessly, both in the Iowa Legislature and as a private attorney, to defend our rights. He has not only brought this issue to the forefront in Des Moines but has also actively engaged with us, the landowners, to ensure that our voices are heard. Charley knows that this pipeline project would have severe and lasting impacts on our land and our community, and he’s committed to doing everything he can to protect us.

Charley has proven that he’s not afraid to take on big fights for the people of North Iowa. He stands with us in opposing this pipeline, which is why we need him to continue this critical work as our representative. His commitment to property rights and the well-being of our community is exactly the kind of leadership we need.

I encourage all Iowans who care about protecting our land and our rights to vote for Charley Thomson on November 5th. Let’s re-elect someone who will continue to stand up for us and fight against harmful projects like the carbon pipeline.

Charley Thomson ‘walks the walk’

By Dennis Raab
Charles City

I’m writing in to express my strong support for reelecting Charley Thomson to the Iowa House of Representatives.

I’ve known Charley from “around town” for about 20 years, and quite closely for the last 10 years. I’m impressed by his support of veterans, traditional conservativism and Donald Trump.

I’ve seen Charley stand up to important people in his own party and tell them to their faces that they need to pay more attention to the needs of rural people when it comes to education.

I also like how Charley has been willing to take on tough issues – like the CO2 pipeline, where the big money is all on the other side, and all Charley has is his belief that the thing is unconstitutional.

Charley also “walks the walk” when it comes to helping people. I’m a recovering alcoholic and for years I’ve been going over once a month to Prairie Ridge to help the guys with a meeting. When Charley (who’s also a Friend of Bill) found out I was going, he immediately volunteered to help out. Now, whenever he’s available, we both head over to help where we can.

Charley’s a credit to Charles City. I think if reelected, Charley will continue to help the state of Iowa and this District.

Legislator urges vote for Thomson

By Pat Grassley
New Hartford

Today I’m writing on the importance of supporting Rep. Charley Thomson for Iowa House District 58 this election. I have the immense pleasure of sharing the responsibility of representing Bremer County in the Iowa House with Charley. He has been an incredible partner in fighting for the priorities of Iowans.

Anyone who has spent any time with Charley knows how intelligent he is. In the Iowa House, I have had a front-row seat to see how Charley uses his extensive knowledge of the law to fight to defend the freedoms of Iowans. His approach is meticulous and detail-oriented. He is able to dig into the details of legislation unlike anyone else and bring innovative solutions to the table to help deliver for Iowans.

It cannot be understated how important Rep. Charley Thomson has been in the fight to protect private property rights from the abuse of eminent domain. He has been a fearless leader on the issue. His knowledge of the laws surrounding land usage and eminent domain is unmatched and Iowa landowners are extremely fortunate to have him at the helm, fighting for private property rights.

Re-elect Charley Thomson to help keep the government in check and to allow him to continue to fight for your freedoms.

Thomson is always watching out for us

By Jennifer Miller
Floyd

Many times I have heard Charley Thomson speak at legislative meetings, and have spoken to him personally. He wants to see Iowans succeed by lowering taxes so that we have more purchasing power and businesses have more money to expand and to hire people. Charley wants to see our children receive a quality education that is tailored to them. Also I appreciate that he is always watching out for us by protecting and defending our rights.

Please join me in re-electing Charley Thomson for the Iowa Statehouse.

Supports Thomson for reelection

By Rep. Zach Dieken
District 5, O’Brien County

Nov. 5 is quickly closing in on us and I wanted to share briefly with you why a vote for Rep. Charley Thomson is the right one.

I have had the privilege of working with Charley for two years now in the Iowa House. There are many specific things I could share but don’t have the space. I would like to hone in a few specifics here.

One, Charley loves the family. The nuclear family is the backbone of society and Charley loves the family – this shows through his voting record for supporting life and all things incentivizing children. The future of our county is safeguarding the family – one thing you can guarantee Charley will continue to do.

Second, Charley loves his country and the Constitution. He isn’t a politician, he’s a statesman. I have personally witnessed Charley stand up for what is right in the face of pressure from other political entities. He votes his conscience, and he votes the constitution. Thus, your liberties will be safeguarded by a man who stands on principle, not the ever-changing political winds.

Lastly, Rep. Charley Thomson has lead the fight for our private property rights against the scam that is the carbon capture pipeline. He has been a bulwark for pushing back against a political agenda that seeks to take away private property and threaten future liberties.

Please make the wise choice come Nov. 5. Reelect this family loving, country serving patriot back into the Iowa House of Representatives.

Government and religion

By Greg Tumilson
Osage

The current Republican party is no longer the Republican party I once respected and voted for in years past. They have become more extreme and a party driven by conspiracy theories for anything they do not like.

They want their freedoms but want to suppress some personal freedoms of others, e.g. abortion bans, book bans, and anti-LGBTQ laws.

The First Amendment of the Constitution protects religious liberty by prohibiting the government from establishing a religion or favoring one religion over another. It also protects the right of citizens to practice their religion as they choose.

It appears Republicans are trying to legislate and indoctrinate their religious views, opinions, and values on everyone. Wars result in countries where one’s religious views are forced on others.

Regarding abortion, polls indicate approximately 60% of those polled want abortion rights, thus it is evident both Democrats and Republicans favor abortion rights.

I believe in some places hundreds of books have been banned. My guess is that a number of those books were available when today’s parents were young and I would venture to say they had no impact on their upbringing. I would love to know how many parents endorsing book bans monitor their children’s internet searches via their laptops and cell phones.

People say we are all God’s children and God created us in his likeness and image; however, it appears to some that statement only applies if everyone is like them and shares the same views.

The Indefatigable Sarah Corkery

By Dugan Conrad Thompson
Charles City

Vote Sarah Corkery, Democrat, to Congressional representative 2nd District.

“This year, we will win Iowa!”

Sarah Corkery, cancer survivor, visited Washington, DC, to get a bill signed, eventually deciding to run for the office to get the bill passed. The residing Congresswoman then signed the bill. Corkery got a new style of park for disabled kids built, raising $1 million for the project in her spare time with another family.

Good, practical money manager, says to effect, she’s blessed to run against Ashley Hinson and (the) … temporary red state status quo. Ashley has had her day.

Sarah lost her close sister at age 48. Mom, women, cancer survivors and Iowa get it done!

Public dollars for public schools. “Congress has forgotten who they work for.”

Liz Mathis lost by narrow vote – votes matter.

This year, we will win Iowa! … I met Sarah Corkery when she visited our monthly Floyd County Democrat’s meeting.

Vote Sarah Corkery, Democrat, to Congress, representative 2nd district.

Hoping for a legitimate election

By Greg Pieper
Charles City

I’m just hoping the next presidential election has some semblance of legitimacy as opposed to the last one. Any statistician would tell you that a 15 percent increase in voters over previous elections is virtually impossible. Also factor in voters lost to COVID, plus, how is it possible that the loser in the last election got more votes than any previous winning president in history?
