WAVERLY — If you’re a spot-up shooter, there is probably not a better flock to fly with than the Go-Hawks.

Waverly-Shell Rock has a propensity in finding open shooters beyond the fringes of the 3-point line while reversing and skipping the ball along the arc’s perimeter. And sometimes these wide-open shooters make them … sometimes more than not which the Go-Hawks did when they hosted former Northeast Iowa Conference-rival Charles City on Friday.

WSR made 16 of 24 3-point attempts while essentially bombing the Comets out of its gym with a final score (87-47) that was hastened by a running clock.

Go-Hawk senior guard Luke Frazell, who was honored before tipoff for reaching 1,000 career points at WSR, added a little more to his running total with a game-high 25 points — most of which came in the first half as the Go-Hawks were able to take a commanding 21-point lead (45-24) into the locker room.

Nathan Miller (16 pts.) and Preston Baumhover (13 pts.) were also in double-figures for the Go-Hawks (6-5), who emptied their bench in the fourth quarter while getting 11 players on the scoring sheet.

Sophomore Henry Ruzicka scored 15 to lead the Comets.

* On Saturday, Charles City participated in a multiple-team “shoot out” invitational at Upper Iowa University, and lost to MFL Mar Mac 75-65.

Comet junior Victor Ward led all scorers with 19 points, and also was credited with three steals. Senior Jordin Ritter scored 14 and dished out nine assists, and Ruzicka scored 12 for the Comets (5-7), who will be back in action when they travel to South Winneshiek on Thursday.

Brock Hackett scored 17 to lead the Bulldogs (12-2).
