Public events scheduled in the Charles City Area

Friday, April 16

• LifeServe Blood Center blood drive, 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Charles City; appointments are required by calling 800-287-4903 or visiting lifeservebloodcenter.org; masks required.


Saturday, April 17

PLAN Pots for Child Abuse Prevention Month will be held 9 to 10 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. at the Floyd County Museum. Children will be given a pot to decorate, along with soil and a seed of their choice to plant. PLAN stands for Patience, Love, Attention and Nurture.


April 12-23

Charles City spring cleanup self-fill dumpster week; call City Hall at 641-257-6300 to reserve a free large dumpster for a day.


Tuesday, April 20

The state of the economy in Charles City and where there is room to grow will be the topic of discussion at a special public presentation at 5:30 p.m. at the Charles City NIACC Center. Hosted by the Business Improvement Committee of Main Street Charles City, this free event will feature Main Street Iowa Business Specialist Robin Bostrom explaining the latest economic profile report by the state on Charles City, which includes census numbers, housing, market profiles, as well as where business/retail leakage is occurring and in what areas Charles City is attracting customers.

Tosanak Recreation Area Volunteer Day, 9 a.m. to noon; activities include painting the Learning Center, so dress accordingly; paint will be provided.

Tuesday, June 22, and Thursday, June 24 

GROW Wild Summer Camp by Floyd County Conservation for kids who have finished grade 1 and above; 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Fossil and Prairie Center near Rockford; $20 per child; explore and discover the natural world of the Fossil & Prairie Park in a whole new way; includes snacks, crafts and a Peterson’s First Guide to Reptiles & Amphibians; facemasks required and social distancing will be used. REGULAR EVENTS

• Charles City Senior Center Congregate Meals drive-thru only. Meals will be available from noon to 12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, but must be reserved by the previous Friday at 1 p.m. by calling 641-228-3114 and leaving a message. Enter on the west side of the Senior Center parking lot and pull up to the front doors. Masks  mandatory. Price for meals for people under 60 years of age is $8.10. Recommended donation for persons age 60 and older is $4.25 to $6.75. Please have diner card or correct cash ready to pay.
