Audit approved for shared landfill

The Charles City Council gave final approval Monday on the audit report covering the Floyd-Mitchell-Chickasaw Solid Waste Management Agency (FMC), presented by council member and Charles City representative Jerry Joerger.

With enough land owned to take up seven cells, the FMC has only filled up to the second cell, Joerger told the council.

The land sections typically take 10 to 15 years to fill up, so using all seven cells would take over fifty years, Joerger said.

In other business, the council moved to change the Monday, Feb. 1 city council meeting to the following day, Feb. 2, to avoid conflicts with the scheduled Iowa caucuses.

The meeting will still be held at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
