John Schultz

John Schultz, 85, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service for John Schultz will be held 11 a.m.

Monday, March 21, 2016 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with the Rev. Bill Odermann officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 20, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

John Mac Schultz, the son of Joseph and Hazel (Jenness) Schultz, was born Dec. 5, 1930 in rural Nashua. He received his education in the rural school and Nashua High School. John enlisted into the United States Navy on Jan. 1, 1949 at San Diego, Calif. While enlisted he trained at the NTC Radio School and served at sea.

John was honorably discharged on Dec. 31, 1949 into the Naval Reserve and was called back to active service in April 1951 for 21 months of sea duty. He was discharged again in Dec. 1953.

John returned home where he began working construction and continued this career for 45 years. He retired into farm work in 1998.

John was united in marriage to Margaret Ball on Dec. 29, 1956 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City.

This union was blessed with one son, David. John enjoyed working on the farm, fishing trips (especially to Canada), playing cards, hunting and visiting with family and friends.

Living family members include his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret of Charles City; son, David (Kathy) Schultz of Des Moines; sister, Lucille (Bill) Allen of California; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Margaret Squires, Gladys Schultz and Jean Hillman; and two brothers: Darwood and Bud Schultz.
