Ronald Ralph McGregor was born June 24, 1930, in rural Nashua, IA, the son of Kenneth and Florence (Wilcox) McGregor. Ron attended county school and was a 1948 graduate of Nashua High School. Upon graduation, Ron attended Mankato Business School in Mankato, MN. After returning home to help on the family farm, Ron entered the United States Army. He served for two years before returning back to Nashua.

Ron met Grace Colburn through mutual friends at a dance in Janesville, IA, and they were married on June 12, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Plainfield, IA. To this union, five children were born; Steven, Roger, Clark, Ruth, and Susan.

Farming was Ron’s life passion. His farming career spanned his entire lifetime, growing crops, raising livestock, owning horses and doing whatever daily tasks were necessary on the farm. Being a farmer, was who Ron was. and it was what he was put on this earth to do. It truly was a labor of love his entire life, and only recently did he retire from planting the crops.

Ron was extremely active on many different boards including IBIA Board, Nashua School Board, Nashua-Plainfield School Board, Hawkeye Community College Board of Trustees, First Security Bank Board member, United Methodist Church Board and was the Beef Superintendent for 4-H. He had a passion for working with these organizations and helping his community grow and flourish.

Ron loved technology and innovation and was always interested in any technology that was being introduced. He liked to integrate this new technology into his farming operation. Ron was a horse lover and always had a riding horse that he would use to check his cattle. He was actively riding his horse, Bronson. In Ron’s eyes, “The devil was in the details” and they always mattered.

Ron had a sweet tooth and his birthday wasn’t official unless there were homemade ice cream, chocolate, and family. Family meant everything to Ron, and he was devoted to them, always calling and talking to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren about their lives. He wanted to know what was going on with them and kept track of what they were doing regularly.

Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace McGregor of Nashua, IA; three sons, Steven (Ann) McGregor of Charles City, IA, Roger (Mindy) McGregor of Van Meter, IA and Clark McGregor of Nashua, IA; two daughters, Ruth (Brian) Bierschenk of Nashua, IA and Susan (Tracy) Wright of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Aaron (Jen) McGregor, Phillip McGregor, Elizabeth (David) Charlson, Emily McGregor, Alex McGregor, Mariah McGregor, Megan (Wiatt) Olson, Kelly (Kyle) Poppe, Ben Bierschenk, Natalie Wright and Matthew Wright; great-grandchildren, Gabriella McGregor, Reagan McGregor, Tyler McGregor, Wesley Charlson, Eva Charlson, Addison Olson, Ashton Olson, Koen and Kabri Poppe; brother, Harold (Jean) McGregor of Owatonna, MN.
