Luft, Staudt claim titles at Central Girls Wrestling Invitational

ELKADER — Charles City claimed a pair of individual titles and four runner-up showings at the Central Girls Wrestling Inviational on Saturday.
Sophomore Lily Luft and junior Lydia Staudt both won their respective brackets while going 3-0.
Staudt, who was the starting point guard for the Comets against Decorah the night before, won all her bouts by fall including a 37-second stoppage in the 120-126 bracket.
Luft had a fall victory and two decision wins including an 8-7 nail-biter against Central City’s Evah Owens to win the 127-132 bracket.
Runner-up finishers for the Comets included Alexis Ver Meer (100-113), Kiki Connell (113-120A), Lauren Staudt (116-118) and Morgan Maloy (145-151).
Elizabeth Oleson (122-132), Katelyn Miller (125-126), Margaret Boss (132-138B) and Ava Thompson (210-250) all placed third in their brackets.
