CHARLES CITY — In basketball, Dani Stock has come a long way for someone who didn’t play organized hoops until high school.

The Charles City senior currently leads her Comet team in blocks, steals and offensive rebounds.

In volleyball, Stock has come an even longer way as she had started playing that sport in earnest much earlier.

“I always imagined myself playing in college someday since I started playing in fifth grade,” said Stock, whose club team resume includes Iowa Elite, CIA and Flight.

On Wednesday, Stock’s imagination became a reality when she signed her letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at Kirkwood College.

“I made my decision in early December,” Stock said. “They have a really nice campus and facilities.”

A middle hitter, Stock is a two-time All-Northeast Iowa Conference selection with a first-team honor her past senior season after leading the Comets in blocks, kills and aces.

Based in Cedar Rapids, Kirkwood College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

During their last full season in 2019, the Eagles sported an overall record of 29-15. Their current season was postponed by the pandemic but is due to reboot later this month.

At Kirkwood, Stock will pursue an Associate of Science degree with plans to expand her education from there.
