NASHUA — Sometimes you can tell early on if it’s going to be a low-scoring baseball, basketball or football game.

Same can be said about shooting sports.

There was little doubt scores from Tuesday’s high school trapshooting meet between Charles City/Nashua-Plainfield and Turkey Valley were not going to blow anyone away.

The blustery conditions Tuesday at the Nashua Fish and Game Club superseded the early-spring challenges the Saturday before at the same site during the Nashua Invitational.

An added nuance were intermittent walls of dust drifting across the shooting ranges caused in part by vehicles pulling in and out of the club.

Still, several shooters hit their targets with competitive efficiency.

Lane Arens led Turkey Valley’s Red squad with a medalist 46-of-50 score while being backed by Jackson Vsetecka (41), Brody Hackman (40), Marcus Kriener (38) and Brady Barta (37) for a first-place team score of 202.

Charles City No. 2 fivesome of Keaton Schmidtke (40), Drew Staudt (39), Brayton Quade (36), Payton Severin (32) and Drew Roethler (31) posted the second-best team score (178).

Charles City junior Colton Crooks matched Clay Fisher as being CC/NP’s best shot (41) while leading the CC No. 1 team of Cael Ruzicka (40), Landon Luft (33) Daniel Laube (33) and Justin Heyer (19) to a third-place score of 166.

Fisher helped the Nashua-Plainfield squad of Josie Fuerstenberg (33), Dawson Demro (31), Kyia Roths (30) and Micaiah Groothais (29) place fourth (164).

And proving once again that she has the mettle to shoot and score in adverse conditions, Charles City senior Sydney Ross matched the score she had the Saturday before (39) to lead all females while shooting among the Comet individuals.

Charles City freshman Taylor Quade also was an individual shooter as her 38 score was matched by TV’s Cadyn Huber and Ashley Fisher for second-best among females.
