CHARLES CITY — Comet senior Cael Bohlen is among the few bowlers who, after averaging just a little better than 200 during a meet, can legitimately claim that he had an off night.

During Charles City’s season opener against Denver before the Thanksgiving break, Bohlen had one of these “off nights” though he paced all rollers in the individual round.

Against Sumner-Fredericksburg last Friday at Comet Bowl, Bohlen upgraded closer to the standard of a defending individual state champion — which he is — when he rolled a two-game series of 476 to lead Charles City’s boys team to a one-sided victory over the Cougars.

With Kaleb Cotton’s 403 series that included a 226 first game, Landon Luft’s 389, Dillan Ross’s 343 and Keaton Ross’s 323, as well as a five-game Baker score of 946, Charles City compiled a total pinfall of 2,880.

Charles City’s girls also won big, led by Imigin McHenry’s 352 two-game series. Other bowlers scoring for the Comets in the individual round include Claire Girkin (334), Jenya Stevenson (328), Sofia Nelson (300) and Ragan Hintgen (267). With Baker games, the Comet girls’ combined score was 2,387.

Both Comet squads will travel to West Union next Friday (Dec. 10) to take on North Fayette at Lilac Lanes. It will be Charles City’s first road meet of the season as well as its first match on synthetic lanes.
