Press Staff Report
The Nashua-Plainfield High School Concert Band is one of eight bands from the state chosen to perform at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference to be held in May in Des Moines.
One band is selected annually to represent each of eight categories: elementary/beginning band, Class 1A/2A middle school, Class 3A/4A middle school, 1A high school, 2A high school, 3A high school, 4A high school and high school jazz band.
The band from Nashua-Plainfield High School is the 2018 Class 1A performing ensemble. This 50-student ensemble is under the direction of Scott Stroud.
“This is truly the top honor for concert band in the state of Iowa,” Stroud said. “I have been teaching for 21 years and can say this is a highlight of my career.
“I was proud to share the musical journey of the audition process and now the concert preparation with this group of dedicated students,” he said. “The Nashua-Plainfield High School Concert Band will represent the Nashua-Plainfield Community School District and Class 1A well.”
Bands submit an audition recording for performance in early January and are notified of selection shortly thereafter.
“These bands are considered to be the premier performing ensembles in Iowa schools, and selection to perform at the IBA Conference is one of the highest honors awarded in the state of Iowa,” according to a news release from the Iowa Bandmasters Association.
Nashua-Plainfield’s performance will take place at 11 a.m. May 12 at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown during the the 91st annual IBA conference.
