DeRailed Bar damaged after train derails early Tuesday

TUESDAY, 1 p.m. — Investigation is ongoing after a freight train derailed at slow speed early Tuesday morning — hitting Charles City bar DeRailed, at 1130 North Grand, in the process.
Two loaded grain hopper cars were affected, Canadian Pacific Railroad spokesperson Jeremy Berry said in an email. There were no injuries and no dangerous goods involved. The amount of damage to the building was not immediately clear.
“CP immediately enacted our emergency response processes to deploy teams and assets to the site,” Berry wrote.
The train cars left the tracks at 4 a.m. The Charles City Police Department responded to the scene along with Canadian Pacific Railroad Police and engineers.
9:30 a.m. — The Charles City Police Department is reporting a train derailment next to the town bar DeRailed early Tuesday morning.
Engineers and security from the Canadian Pacific Railroad Police Department responded to the scene on Tuesday morning, inspecting building damage and expecting more machinery to respond later in the day.
One car appeared to be leaning in to a back shed attached to DeRailed, although the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
8:10 a.m. –– The incident happened at about 4 a.m., Charles City police noted on their Facebook page. No one was injured but the building suffered an unspecified amount of damage.
