The Davico sign at the former gas station next the the Floyd County Courthouse is going down, and the county will give $25,000 to help Nora Springs put up a pedestrian bridge.

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors met in a special meeting Tuesday during which it approved both moves and rectified a clerical error that overpayed a county employee.

The board awarded a $2,368 contract to Quade Construction to remove the sign and concrete from the former Davico site.

Supervisor Roy Schwickerath and Board Chairman Mark Kuhn approved awarding the project. Supervisor Doug Kamm, owner of Kamm Excavating, abstained from voting.

Supervisors also approved Nora Springs’ request for $25,000 to be used toward construction of a pedestrian bridge. Floyd County Auditor Gloria Carr explained this amount is being requested because the community is required to show support from local authorities in order to receive grants necessary for the project.

“We haven’t really turned down any grants,” Schwickerath said of the request.

Kamm ultimately supported request, but first stated his reservations. “I don’t want this to be the sounding board request (for money),” he said. “We are doling out taxpayers’ money.”

The supervisors and a county employee agreed to a plan to fix a clerical error that boosted her paycheck above what had been agreed upon. The overpayment of wages lasted 25 weeks.

Floyd County Naturalist Heidi Reams met with the board on Tuesday. In the end, her pay going forward will be returned to the $39,034 level, but her available paid time off was reduced to account for the overpayment.

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, June 27 for its regularly scheduled workshop.
