County collection site to change hours

Tuesday morning the Floyd County Board of Supervisors approved revising the operation hours of the Floyd County Collection Site. Effective as of Aug. 15, the collection site will no longer be open on Mondays. The site hours will run Tuesdays through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The collection site will remain closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Supervisors have been discussing potential changes to the operating hours of the Floyd County Collection Site since Gloria Troge, collection site operator, announced her retirement. The hope was to better serve the residents of Floyd County as well as being fair to a new employee.

Previous hours for collection site operation kept the location open Monday through Saturday with the only closure on Sunday. Hours were divided between Troge and part-time workers willing to substitute when Troge would request vacation. When looking to fill the position after Troge’s retirement, Floyd County Engineer Dusten Rolando voiced concern about the employee not feeling as “though they had a weekend” without having two days off in a row.

Before making any decisions Supervisors worked with Troge to determine the collection site’s busiest periods. With that data, Supervisors asked Rolando to work with Karen Smith, Troge’s full time replacement, to establish the new collection site times. Signs and handouts will be shared with those utilizing the collection site to remind customers of the changed hours. During Tuesday’s meeting, the Supervisors acknowledged the new hours could cause some momentary inconvenience but hope, in time, customers will adjust and become used to the new hours.
