Twenty-one Floyd County employees are transitioning from salary to hourly rates of pay, and three of them are no longer exempt from overtime rules. The switch will be effective Sept. 30.

The switches were prompted by a change effective Dec. 1 to the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act. The key change is for an employee to be paid a salary and ineligible for overtime pay that salary must be at least $47,476. That threshold was $23,660.

Also at the meeting, the board set a 9:15 a.m., Sept. 13 hearing for a zoning change request by Engels Farms. Engels applied to rezone 14.85 acres at 2065 Red Ball Road in Rockford Township from agricultural to commercial. It wants to develop the property for the storage of ag products, according to the application.

The board noted the hire of Jaime Ann Schriever of Marble Rock, who will begin work as a Medicaid case manager and service coordinator with Floyd County Social Services beginning Sept. 9.

The board approved an assessment of $8,000 over a period 10 years and an interest rate of 5 percent for Drainage District No. 1. Schafer Brothers Tiling Inc. of Charles City recently finished $7,640 worth of work in the district, which nearly emptied the district’s account. The firm installed dual wall plastic tile and cleared 1.25 acres of trees.

The county is going to ask for sealed bids from people interested in purchasing and removing to ground level a storage building in Niles. The building had been used to store road equipment is susceptible to flooding. The county erected a new shed in Floyd, which houses that equipment.
