CC Board of Education to consider land purchase, building sale

Staff report

Two long-awaited sales for the Charles City Community School District may be finalized during the district’s Board of Education meeting on Monday.

According to the meeting’s agenda, the potential purchase of 20 acres of land may be brought to the board for discussion and action. Discussion hinges on whether district administration finalize an agreement with the seller, the district attorney and Stewart Realty. The Charles City school district has been searching for land to build a new baseball/softball sports complex outside of a flood plain.

The Charles City district administration is also finalizing negotiations with the potential buyer of the 500 North Grand building, also known as the former middle school. A proposal has been put forward by developer Charley Thomson through the North Grand Benevolent, Literary, Eleemosynary, Educational, Scientific and Charitable Institution, Inc.

The Board of Education will also install new Student Board Member Dylan Salinas, a junior at Charles City High School. Salinas will also be considered for appointment to the School Improvement Advisory Committee.
