TLC sells ‘cookies for a cause’

If you were out shopping at HyVee Saturday morning you could’ve contributed to The Learning Center by buying a dozen cookies.

“We’re selling cookies to raise money for art projects and STEM projects to do at TLC for the older and younger kids,” said Lindsay Lokenbitz, an after- and before-school worker at TLC.

Lokenbitz was assisted by Jaxon McDonald, 9,  and Renner Kober, 5. Kober ran around HyVee letting costumers know what they were selling.

“We’re here today until noon,” Lokenbitz said Saturday. “We like to do STEM projects, which are science, technology and engineering and math, and give them more stuff to broaden their horizons.”

The money raised will help the kids learned about electricity by connecting wires and about solar energy.

The “Cookies for a Cause” project gave a dollar for every dozen cookies sold.

“The money that we get will go to the projects that we need,” Lokenbitz said.

Each room in TLC had a contest to sell the most cookies during pre-sales.

“Whichever room could sell the most cookies could get a gift card for their room,”Lokenbitz said.

Prior to their appearance at HyVee, the group had sold about 40 to 50 dozen cookies.

TLC is looking at other fundraising projects in the future.
